This was the first lapbook our family ever used and we were hooked! We loved every part of of this unit. We printed all of our minibooks on white paper and my daughter would color them while I read. Thank for such a great product! (Posted on 3/20/2013)

HOAC has done it again. Another great Project Pack that covers great literature. The planning guide gives you a visual of what topics are being covered, what chapters will be read, what words will be studied, and what activities can be done. The study is flexible and doesn't have "Day 1", "Day 2" and so forth like in other Project Packs. Each section is listed by chapter and gives you an idea of how long it should take to complete. Most only take 1-2 days to complete while Chapters 6 & 13 say it should take 2-3 days. The related Pioneer book list is long with 23 books listed. Some are chapter books that can be read as read alouds before bedtime. Others are more resource books about Laura Ingalls Wilder. I really wish that there was a special section for school readers or books for younger tag-alongs but otherwise it's an excellent list. Another reason HOAC is known for excellent products is because their pictures and instructions for the lapbook pieces are so helpful. Even a newbie to lapbooking can confidently use this product.

Each Chapter has vocabulary words to study which are appropriate for this age group. Oral discussion questions are also specific for this age group and cover key points in the text. Most questions discuss not only why the characters did what they did but also how life was living in the woods in the 1800's. If you don't feel the topics covered are enough, there is an "Additional Topics to Research" section. They are relevant to the story and can be done an on interest-led basis. The lapbook pieces themselves are well designed and fit this study perfectly. Most pieces have the option of regular lines or primary lines. Now your child learning to write in cursive will have plenty of room to write down his thoughts. All-in-all an excellent Little House series product. I'm hoping that HOAC will also come out with a Note Pack for this book so my children who don't care for lapbooks can also benefit and have fun with this book. Just a thought. :)

My children and I did this lapbook together as we read Little House in the Big Woods. It was very enjoyable. I love Hands of a child. You can use them with all different ages. (Posted on 8/23/2012)

We really enjoyed the Little House in the Big Woods lapbook! It helped my daughter focus to have hands on projects for each chapter. We have a better appreciation for how much work they did back then. The more lapbooks we do...the more we want to do! Thanks so much for your lapbooks!

This was the very first lapbook that we did. My 9 yo dd is really into the books and wanted to do a lapbook on one. I had no idea what I would be getting from the company. HOAC did NOT disappoint. We used it along side reading the book aloud which was perfect. My 2 younger children really enjoyed it as well. It caused us all to dig deeper into the book and really think about the story. There are mini books about bee sting treatments, celebrations, difference between then and now and many more. (Posted on 8/8/2012)
